Benedict Arlen strikes again!
Rewind to 1965: Arlen Specter switches to the Republican Party while running for Philadelphia District Attorney!
Now, let's jump ahead to April 27, 2009: Arlen Specter announces he will be joining the rank and file of the Democratic Party!
"As the Republican Party has moved farther and farther to the right, I have found myself increasingly at odds with the Republican philosophy and more in line with the philosophy of the Democratic Party" - Senator SpecterAlright, sounds legit. The Senator is merely trying to align himself with people that reflect his own principles. Oh wait...
"...surveyed the sentiments of the Republican Party in Pennsylvania and public pinion polls, observed other public opinion polls and have found that the prospects for winning a Republican primary are bleak" - Senator SpecterI see...so the old "out of principle" statement was just a smoke screen for the real reason. The Senator KNEW he would lose the primary to Pat Toomey and therefore out of pure political survival decided to join the Democrats (knowing that he would go unopposed for the Democratic nomination for 2010).
Benedict Arlen is the type of politician that gives Congress it's bad name. I know my liberal counterparts will try to make it as though I am only angry at him for leaving the Party. Well...In all truthfulness, I'm quite happy. Senator Specter was a RINO (Republican in Name Only) using the party for his own political gain. The sole reason I call him Benedict Arlen is not due to the switch of party affiliation but because of his lack of loyalty to his constituents. He placed political survival above the people he was hired to represent. This act of betrayal is unforgivable and I'm positive the people of Pennsylvania will remember this come election day 2010.
Can anyone say Congressional term limits? Hey Gingrich, let's renew the "Contract with America" and get this ball rollin'!
